I’ve had both and they both do the same thing.
Buy a dual core processor and you can run more than one program at a time.
The two below are talking nonsense !

Intel are better but they usually cost more: AMD’s are cheaper but not made to as high a standard.

  • Adam M:

Currently, the Intel Core 2 processors significantly outperform anything that AMD has to offer. But with each new generation of processors, it is possible to switch back and forth which is better. Also, AMD will be better at some price ranges, and Intel at others. Right now, i think the best price/performance point is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6420(2.13 GHz), at around $186.

Edit: Responding to poster below, the Pentium D is NOT a core 2 duo processor–it is based on the older Netburst architecture and is not anywhere near as fast as the Core 2 Duo. You owuld be much better off shelling out the extra $50 to get the newer architecture–the performance payoff is well worth it.

Adam where do you shop?I’m buying a Boxed heat sink w/fan Pentinum D 3.2ghz core 2 duo for $120.00 Beat that! That is at

  • Randy:

price is the major difference for competitive proposes amd has better prices, unless your talking a top end ( over $1000 CPU) Intel cost more and in the top end chips are faster better stronger and last longer, but as I said for most home users ? its more * which is the fastest chip I can afford?
amd makes a lower cost chip and it is fast where Intel makes a more expensive chip that is more durable… as for speeds? they are all about the same plus minus a few points either way. I use (2) Intel quad core 3.73 H.T.chips myself) a bit costly but in my lifetime I won`t be looking to upgrade!
Intel makes a less expensive quad core chip The low-voltage Clovertowns almost same speed at around 1/2 the cost of the Intel Dempsey and won`t require 130 watts to run them as the Dempsey quad core,,, cheers~

    IGNORE ALL THOSE OTHER PEOPLE!!!

Here is proof that AMD X2 Dual Core beats ANY processor that Intel has out. Here it is: . Make the better choice.
