Should I opt for an AMD processor over an Intel?
tau.reanb asked:
I plan on buying a new computer soon and will be going with Dell. Dell currently has two models of the same system except they have different processors. I have always used an Intel processor, but I hear AMD processors are also pretty reliable.

Should I stick with the familiar, well known Intel or should go for a cheaper AMD system? Recommendations?

Go with Intel Core2-Duo, a little more money but well worth it. Upgrade to Quad Core at later time (in the fall 2007)
Your question is like asking “Do I get a Ford or a Chevy?”
Both Intel and AMD are good products – take your pick. I have owned AMD for many years (last Intel I bought was a 386) but at work I use an Intel.
Go with what you can afford…save in one area to upgrade in another.

what are you going to use your laptop for?
for office/browsing/spreadsheet/regular things, any will do just fine without any significant differences.
however if you’re doing graphics/video processing, I would say that Intel Core Duo architecture have the edge at this moment. It’s more powerful and more battery efficient (more power per watts), and more heat efficient than an AMD.
