Is it true that amd processor tend to overheat and crash because of this?

Agent Orange asked:

I’m looking to buy a new processor and i’m thinking of getting an Amd Phenom quad core processor. I’m not sure if i should do so because a friend of mine has an Amd processor and his computer shuts down because of overheat every time he gets to this one part of this game.

If the processor is overheating, he needs to get some fans/heatsinks on top of the processor. The quadcore is going to be warm, for sure, but just get some decent cooling for less than $40 (case fans for $10) or so and you’re good.

This really depends…If you install water cooling or a great heat-sink, you shouldn’t have any problems.

If he’s crashing in the middle of a game…is he 100% sure it’s his processor? In most cases that would be his video card overheating. That is very common, but you can get a good card that has a fan built in.

u should get intel quad core q6600 they are better at making multicore processors and it performs better. if you really want to save money than go with the amd your choice.. but i advise you to buy intel.

u should get a q9300 processor pc from hp it does not cost much

more than likely your friends GPU is overheating not the processor. look into an aftermarket cooler for both if you are worried and use Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound for both. i use these coolers in my system…
