If you need a laptop with good battery life, you should look at the ones with Intel CPUs. Their power management beats the pants off any AMD-based laptop, and gives you longer battery life.
If you are going to use it as a desktop replacement (i.e. leave it plugged in all the time and not go anywhere with it), then either will do.
The AMD should be fine for older games, but they do run hot and consume battery. If you do want to play newer games, you’ll notice there aren’t any AMD laptops with discrete GPUs – because it requires too large a PSU and performance is poor with AMD CPU.
This benchmark is old, and doesn’t have the new Intel T8 or Santa Rosa CPUs. L7300 and L7500 CPUs are intel’s Low Voltage CPUs found in thin and light 11″ laptops, and they still perform very well.

If you do like newer 3D games, the only laptop under $2000 that can play Crysis at High settings is this
It can play COD4 max settings at 60fps and Crysis on High settings (DX10) at 25fps.
The 9500m GS is better than the 8600mGT – when AA and AF is off of course.
8600m GT – better than 9500m GS at high res and after filters.
If you play 3D games, avoid the X3100, Nvidia 6150m or 7150m or equivalent. They won’t play games well.
