I was wondering If it was possible to upgrade a single core processor to dual. ?

Tom D asked:

I have a Hewlett Packard Company Compaq Presario – AMD Sempron Processor 3400+ 1.79 GHz 448 MB of Ram. I want to upgrade to dual core. How do I do it?

depends if your motherboard can handle it, but i doubt it

If its is a socket 754 motherboard then definitely no but if socket 939 i have upgraded Compaqs from Athlon64 3400+ to Opteron 170 dual cores!

its not likely you can but there is a simple way to check if you open the side of your computer you should see an extra port for another processor to plug into or an easyer way to tell is how many spots are there for ram ? (it would be near the prosscor (the thing with a fan on it) and they are 4 to 5 inchs long
(u should already have one or two stiks in your computer)
if there is 4 total slots (includeing the slots that are filled) you can add another processor however there is more likely only 2 slots if there is only two total slots for ram then no your mother bord is a single processor motherborad which means you cant add another processor

your best bet is to buy a new comp with a duel core processor built in

however if you want you can upgraded your mother board to one which has a duel core and plug in your processor along with a simaler processor into your computer i would have a tech profinal do this thou
