Has anyone used a laptop with a AMD processor?

burger asked:

Hi, im planning on getting a new laptop from dell ( a cheap one ) and am wondering about the processor, its a AMD Athlon 64 dual core Mobile Technology. Has anyone used one of these?? whats it like, ill just be using it for music, guitar pro, msn , and browsing the web. will this be fast enough??

ive got the choice of a AMD Turion 64 dual core Mobile Technology for a bit more, is it worth it???

any cheap laptop should be able to handle msn, browsing and music… games are trickier.. you need to look at what video chip is onboard…
it doesn’t rely on JUST the processor.

Unfortunately, as you know…they amd line is cheaper because their processors are running hot off the line……the intel will use less power for the performance it gives…but the amd is cheap…you get what you pay for…

Yeah, I’m using one right now, they’re good but not very fast, mine is running at 1.7GHz, but I no problem running games I like as I’m not into heavy graphic games, as for how much better is Turion and Athlon, apparently Turion only runs 100 MHz faster than Athlon, I couldn’t say it’s a good deal as I don’t know the prices you’re looking at. My brother was having some bugs in his Intel processor and I haven’t had any complaints with AMD so far, it’ll run all those things you mentioned.

i personally do not like AMD processors. but to answer your question, yes those will just fine for what you mentioned.

AMD does not run as fast as Intel, they also tend to overheart more than Intel’s. but again, for what you mentioned you want to use it for, it should not burn up. usually its gaming or very CPU intensive programs that will make it heat to the point where it might start causing problems.
