Will I need a whole new motherboard to update an AMD Duron Processor to an Intel Core 2 Duo?

It’s an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 64. I have 200 GHz and 896 MB of RAM.
What’s the fastest Intel processor and equivalent AMD processor?
